DESIGNING FOR NATURE

A short project that introduces inclusive perspectives and design for other species to students that have been learning mainly about human centered design methods. This project seeks to amplify the approach that design can have and how it can be used for other species besides humans. Design is used as a tool to create connections and interactions between humans and non humans, in this case plants and other species that cohabit and create tiny ecosystems around plants, such as pollinators. Design is also used to improve the life of plants and to better understand their needs and feelings.

This second edition focused on public areas and how to create awareness of the plants and animals that we share these spaces with. It also explored the idea of creating interactions and breaking barriers between humans and nature.

BEE HOTEL

Paola Zárate and Mariana Vázquez

This hotel was created to help with the pollination of the Lantana Camara plant, which is a plant that is characterized by having extensive flower buds.

The chosen plant is found with a single bud and very few fruits and leaves. With this structure, solitary bees will approach the area, helping its growth and the increase in its flowers.

APAPACHO

Emiliano Sánchez

Apapacho seeks to take advantage of the anatomy of the colorín trees through the creation of a chair, which adapts to the shape of the trunk. In this way, it becomes a space for coexistence, which encourages the relationship of humans with the natural environment.

MIRROR SYSTEM FOR CACTI

Sebastián Arroyo and Iyali López

Mirror system to redirect sunlight and support rooting in cacti.

The main objective is to bring people closer to the plant, interaction with humans is essential since the mechanism must be reconfigured every time the sun changes.

BETO

Jimena Acosta

Tool kit that allows you to get to know avocado trees, and encourages you to connect with the nature that is within your environment and that you get involved in its care. either by protecting it from wind currents, watering your land so that it stays moist.

BAMBOOCINA

Karen Hernández and Miguel Arenas

Object that redirects moisture trapped in the roots of plants to the surface. It also promotes human-plant integration, as it works as a cell phone sound amplifier, which helps plant growth through the vibrations of music.

PROTECCIÓN

José Arturo Piña

Anti-pest diffuser for plants toxic to dogs. It uses hibiscus and citrus essences to keep dogs away, protect their health and in turn allow plant growth.

RÍN

Rebeca Juárez

RÍN focuses on root care and fertilization of the Colorín tree. This type of tree needs its roots to be covered to be able to develop correctly, the movement of people hinders its development.

Through an interactive bank that limits people stepping on the exposed roots of the tree, this Colorín will be able to recover its natural state and through the openings in the seat, the petals that will fall from the tree and that function as natural compost, will be centralized in its roots to ensure its development.
