INMATERIAL COLLECTION

HONORARY MENTION

During this semester 20 industrial design students, the first generation of the Art, Object and Fashion concentration, developed a comprehensive project called INMATERIAL.

INMATERIAL is a collection of garments, ornaments and accessories that explores three different personalities (The Liquid Beings, The Daydreamers and The Reformers. ) created from the dominant profiles of the Generation Z, the first digital native generation, through fashion.

These personalities coexist together in the so-called “Artificial Ecosystems”: virtual spaces where real experiences are generated in artificial and intangible environments, an intersection between the physical and the digital world.

The Liquid Beings (represented with golden skin type) are dynamic and irreverent personalities. For them life is a constant game and experimentation is their key word. They cannot be pigeonholed because their style is changeable, but their personality is constant. They are fun. Curiosity is one of their strongest qualities. They are not afraid to express themselves and experiment with who they are.

The Reformers (represented with purple skin in paint brushes) are humanist, supportive, strong and revolutionary personalities. They are those who take action if they see something wrong, raise their voice and seek the common good at all costs. They are activists and play a fundamental role in social, political, environmental and economic transformation. They don't wait for the transformation to happen, they carry out the transformation.

The Daydreamers (represented with soft pink glittery skin) are simple, straightforward, and easy-going personalities. They are aspirational but not unreachable. They are nostalgic about the past but very focused on the present and enjoying the now. They find beauty in the details of everyday life. They are carefree and relaxed, they are authentic beings without pretension.

THE BOOK

As part of INMATERIAL, we developed and printed a book explaining the whole project from the inspiration to the final results.

This book contains the conceptual development of the collection, the research behind it, the development of the personalities, its justification, as well as the detailed explanation of the 49 objects that make up the collection.

The book is a detailed analysis of the Generation Z. It’s an investigation that projects, writes and frames the desires, thoughts, behaviors, attitudes and dreams of our generation, at a local and international scale.

Immersed in this research are our pieces that seek to represent the legacy that we, as active actors of this generation, want to share using fashion as the communication tool.

You can check the book online here.

THE EXPERIENCE

The last stage of the project was to develop and design a museography to provide users with a 360 degree experience.

It consists of a space where, through digital tools, you can use the garments and create an outfit within an artificial ecosystem.

The outfit will be created on a device (a phone, a tablet, a computer) and will be projected inside the space. Giving the person the freedom to "wear it" without risking contact, due to the pandemic scenario we are living in.
